Why community-led development works

Otieno Project 1 min read

Lasting change starts with the people who live it. Here is how CIVS keeps communities in the lead.

At CIVS Kenya we have a simple conviction: the people closest to a problem are closest to its solution. Our role is to support, resource and walk alongside — not to arrive with ready-made answers.

That is why every project begins with listening. Community committees set the priorities, local staff coordinate the work, and volunteers contribute their energy and skills within that frame. It is slower than a top-down model, and far more durable.

More than two decades on, the proof is in the resource centers still running, the businesses still trading and the children still in school.
